Cloud-Enabled Servers Will Soon Outpace Physical Servers
Modern datacenters are shifting so dramatically
toward virtualization that the number of workloads running on physical
servers will drop for the first time during 2016, while total workload
volume increases by nearly two-thirds worldwide, according to a recent
survey by Cisco
Systems Inc. The number of datacenter workloads that run alone on a
physical server rose 4.8 percent between 2014 and 2015, but increased
just 0.2 percent during 2015. It's expected to drop by 1 percent
worldwide by the end of 2019, Cisco noted.
